New York City reports lingering price of lung disease, mental trauma

NEW YORK — Respiratory ailments, mental trauma and other problems that arose after the Sept. 11 attacks are costing the U.S. health care system $393 million per year, according to an analysis that city officials released Tuesday. The estimate was part of a report by a panel that Mayor Michael Bloomberg convened last year to study Sept. 11 health effects and treatment programs, which are said to be running out of funding 5½ years after the attacks.

'Novaya gazeta'  What went on behind the scenes of a famous report
The pager reported the seizure of a hostage at the Swedish embassy. I needed get to the scene with a film crew as quickly as possible. They'd already send a car there with some spare cassettes, batteries, hand lights, and a mobile telephone so that we could 'go live.' Back then we didn't have minibuses with satellite dishes and generators and their own television transmitter. Back then the whole information service had four mobile phones. Our government competitors didn't even have these.
The novice cameraman grew quiet upon learning of our forthcoming, unplanned filming. Apparently he was immersed in unrealizable dreams of the big cinema. We only just made it to
