Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry identifies terrorism suspect detained in Ukraine

          He is a native of the Atyrau region. Prosecutors are working on his extradition.

At a press briefing on December 12th, Altai Abibullayev, official representative of the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry, reported the following: “According to the Kazakhstan Embassy in Kiev, the Kazakhstan citizenship of the detainee has been confirmed. Hehas a national IDcard, as well as a passport for the Republic of Kazakhstan. Hisname is Ardager Baurzhanovich Mukhitov, date of birth March 24th, 1989, and he is a native of the Atyrau region.”

Abibullayev noted that the prosecutor generals of Kazakhstan and the Ukraine have signed extradition agreements, and, according to the Foreign Ministry spokesman, the issue of rendition will be addressed in accordance with that document. TheEmbassy of Kazakhstan in the Ukraine has been working closely with law enforcement agencies over the course of the investigation. TheForeign Ministry also made assurances that information about the investigation will be made public.

Last week the Interior Ministry reported that a Kazakhstan citizen wanted for involvement in a terrorist group was detained in the Kiev region. TheUkrainian authorities reported that “the evil-doer was not only calling for terrorist acts, but also engaged in recruiting participants willing to fight in on-going hot spots. Theyoung man is an active member of a radical organization that is suspected of involvement in organizing a number of bombings that have resulted in injuries to the civilian population.”
