 In any Russian terror act the terrorists and the government are always to blame. Only the public is ever blameless. In this case the terrorists sacrificed themselves, so now the government works around the clock to deal with the aftermath while the public sits on the Internet and discusses it all.
The above paragraph, of course, was written to attract an angry reader's attention. So now that you have made it this far, I will try to explain.
Around noon on Monday the entire center of Moscow was packed with special vehicles. The wounded had already been transported to hospitals, the dead put into plastic bags, and a pretty little helicopter had already departed from Lubyanka Square. Meanwhile, an interesting topic was raised on LiveJournal. One blogger, then another, who had not watched TV in years, suddenly turned it on and saw something awful. They saw Gennady Petrovich Malakhov and his urine, a movie called «The Detectives», a documentary called «Underwater Treasures», and, most monstrous, many advertisements. «But CNN is broadcasting live from the scene of the bombing!» the bloggers shouted. And I very much wished to agree with them. The truth is that the leading the media agencies did not react to the main news event of the day. How unprofessional.
When it is a matter of business, go to the radio and the Internet. The juiciest details were on the air. I listened to it all, and something in what was said worried me.
See for yourself. Terror attacks had occurred in the subway. And even more — in the subway stations. «Why?» I thought. «This isn't logical!» Remember how the blast wave smashed through the tunnel during the bombing near the Avtozavodskaya subway station? The explosion the confined space of the tunnel first pulverized everyone who was riding in the same subway car as the terrorist, then the wave reflected off the tunnel walls, hitting the next subway train, which had just arrived at the scene of the blast. This was very effective, in terms of mass casualties. Even a rather small amount of explosives, without any nuts and bolts, is effective. The main damaging factor in such circumstances is the blast wave.
So why, this time, did the terrorists reject using such an effective method? After all, they were already in the subway! What could have stopped them from bringing the explosives onto a train? At first glance the answer seems obvious: mobile phones only work dependably in stations, because in tunnels they are either unreliable or do not function at all. But why did the terrorists need mobile phones? It is easy to understand: to detonate the bombs.
This is a very interesting point. The fact is, in preparing such a terrorist attack, technical issues, such as transporting terrorists to scene, building bombs, acquiring explosives and sub-munitions, these are all child’s play. The can use household items, and any schoolboy can manage this, and we all have a large amount of proof in this regard. And if everything only depended on nails, wire, and nitrates, then terror attacks in Moscow would never cease. Everything depends on the suicide bomber, however, and the most difficult item to prepare for such a terrorist attack is the suicide bomber. People who are willing to sacrifice themselves, but are also up to the task of handling the surrounding realities, and ready, when necessary, to close the contacts on the battery, are difficult to prepare. They are readied for months, if not years, and that is why only the narrow-minded could link the current terrorist attacks in Moscow with the recent deaths of Sayeed Buryat and Anzor Astemirov. Terror attacks are not organized in a couple of days. That just does not happen.
And that gives rise to the thought, that if the toughest thing about a terrorist attack is preparing the suicide bomber, then are the explosions in the stations (within range of cellular communications) a clear indication that, this time, there were no suicide bombers? And that the bombs were either left in the subway cars, then detonated remotely, or were in the hands of people who are unaware of what they were carrying.
But the investigators, who said they had found an unexploded suicide bomber’s belt, soon refuted this beautiful idea. They had also observed the terrorists on surveillance cameras, and noted that some women accompanied them. This means that, apparently, they had prepared suicide bombers.
But then — why, why were the bombings in the stations, and not in the tunnels? I had no explanation until the very moment that the bloggers became outraged by Gennady Malakhov and his Urinotherapy. Of course! The blasts occurred at the stations just because it is light there, and there are cameras! When the train was blown up in the tunnel near Avtozavodskaya, what did the audience see? Nothing. They saw bloodied people leaving the subway, and that is about it.
On Monday the audience saw everything it wanted to see. Bodies were lying on the subway platform. The station was filled with dust. Videotapes from surveillance cameras and, pay attention, from passengers' mobile phones! And everything got put on YouTube right away.
Now we will digress a bit, for greater understanding. The other day a newspaper published material that revolved around the trial of two parents, pedophiles, who for several years had raped their daughter. Among other things, the article included the following phrase: «Acquiescing to numerous requests from readers of this publication, we are publishing a photograph that serves as evidence of the material facts.» Yes, that is right, after numerous requests from the readers. The photo shows a nude, underage girl and her mother's live-in boyfriend. «How disgusting!» immediately shouted the public. «What scum would publish this stuff!» And all the while they were regularly clicking on the link to see the photo. «How disgusting!» continued another part of the public. «All these readers and their numerous requests!» And afterwards that other part of the public just as regularly also clicked on the link to view the photo. So now you have probably quit reading this column and gone to look for the photo. It is still there. Come back later.
Are you back? Now do you understand? Bloggers resented the lack of pictures on the federal TV channels, not because they lacked information. Information they had — they are bloggers, after all. They just wanted to see that photo of a naked girl in the arms of a pedophile, or at least a couple of corpses.
And that is exactly what the terrorists needed. A horrible picture of wounded people, crawling along the marble platform, filmed and broadcast by as many cameras as possible. The terrorists have finally begun to understand the Russians. Where did all this numerous «amateur footage» on YouTube come from? It is from people in front of whose eyes an explosion just occurred, who took from their pocket their cell phone and started shooting. And then they went to a high-speed Internet connection and immediately uploaded it all. They uploaded it, because hundreds of thousands of views, and ratings, and glory, and all that. I am a witness! I was there! I saw it! And here is my super-video as evidence.
The second example of hypocrisy after the attack was the public outrage of the bloggers and the media at the high prices private taxi drivers started asking for their services. «Just think,» wrote a girl who works at Krasnye Vorota. «They wanted three thousand rubles to get from Komsomolskaya! And this is during a calamity! Why, on September 11th in New York City the taxi drivers transported people out of attack zone free of charge!»
This, remember, was written by a girl who was only late for work. Who had transferred at Komsomolskaya Station and was not involved in any terrorist attack. She did not see any terrorist attack. She was just an ordinary Muscovite who was charged an ungodly fare. What sort of calamity is that? What was the calamity for all who collected the numbers of taxi drivers charging high prices, and then wrote angry articles? None. The media, which hyped the theme about taxi drivers raising prices, they should be ashamed. They raised this issue for their own circulation and ratings. That is, they acted exactly like those same taxi drivers.
In another web post I read about how, while in line at the supermarket, a discussion between two shoppers was interrupted by a man of Asiatic appearance, who shorted: «You’re all to blame!» The blogger (a girl, by the way), with some gusto imagined on LiveJournal what they in line did to the man of Asiatic appearance. A girl, who stood in that very same line! Not in line to donate blood at the Emergency Care Institute. Not near the scene of the terrorist attacks, handing out water and clean towels. She was standing in line at the supermarket, buying himself some food, sanitary napkins, condoms, and beer, and discussing things with others. Oh, the humanity!
But the Asian was right!
We are to blame for the fact that we are being killed, because we do not even behave like a brainless herd. No, we act as if we were parasites on their bodies. They kill us, but we shoot it on video.
We do not resist. We shoot and upload. We do some silly demonstration with candles, which no one needs except for the organizers and participants. We discuss it on the radio, on a station whose ratings are increased by these discussions. We demand pictures on television, which increases the TV station's ratings. We nourish ourselves with these terror attacks.
That is, we are terrorists, just like them. Only they kill strangers and die for an idea, while we kill ourselves and die for ratings.

«Террористы наконец стали понимать русских. Откуда все эти многочисленные «кадры любительской съемки» на YouTube? Ведь это люди, на глазах которых только что произошел взрыв, доставали из кармана мобильные телефоны и начинали снимать. А потом ехать к быстрому Интернету – и немедленно выкладывать все это, выкладывать. Потому что сотни тысяч просмотров, рейтинг, слава и все такое. Я очевидец! Я был там! Я видел! И вот вам мое супервидео в качестве доказательства.»
Возможно, мой комментарий не совсем по теме, но вот что я написал в январе 2005 года, после самого смертоносного стихийного бедствия в современной истории – цунами 26 декабря 2004 года, унесшего за считанные минуты до 300 тысяч (!) человеческих жизней. Возможно, что реальная причина «мобильного видео» очевидцев не в тщеславии и желании быть первым…
Человеческое внимание всегда привлекало неизвестное, загадочное, странное как в себе самом, так и в окружающем мире. Это понятно, пытливый разум пытается уяснить, осознать то, что еще скрывается за пределами нашего бытия, и тем самым побороть вселенский хаос. Всеобщая структура и упорядочивание — вот к чему в конечном итоге стремится мысль человека. Помните? «Порядок прежде всего!»
Но почему с таким интересом, вниманием многие ныне живущие следят (современный уровень информатизации общества позволяет это делать уже «в режиме реального времени») за различными катастрофами и буйствами природы, даже несмотря на весь ужас происходящего?
Для того, чтобы ответить на этот вопрос необходимо сначала понять, что есть крупные техногенные аварии и природные катаклизмы? Безусловно, это зло, боль и страдания для тех, кого они коснулись напрямую или косвенно. Это сострадание и бескорыстная помощь со стороны добрых сердцем лудей… Однако природе или ядерному реактору глубоко плевать, какие чувства испытывает человек, когда все, что для него дорого рушится, исчезает в один миг. Их, если угодно, бытийная суть в другом. Наблюдается определенное сходство между этими явлениями и социальными конфликтами в крайнем их выражении — революциями и войнами, представляющими собой максимальное действие в концентрированной форме. А из чего состоит жизнь самого человека? Да из тех же действий, деятельности, причем, по возможности и желанию, также максимальной, что называется в полную силу. И получается в итоге такая вот интересная картина: человек следя за ходом происходящего выброса энергии (которая с греческого и есть действие), интересуясь его последствиями, сам переживает, пусть и не непосредственно, а лишь на эмоциональном уровне, все происходящее. Переживая же, он тем самым приобщается к той действительности, реальности, тратя при этом намного меньше энергии (сбылась заветная мечта человечества — при минимальных затратах получать максимум возможного!). Что требовали народные массы в древнем Риме? Правильно, «хлеба и зрелищ»! То есть, простите, брюхо хавчиком сначала набить (желательно на халяву, за чужой, например, государственный, счет), а потом чего-нибудь посмотреть поярче, да повеселей, и чтоб мордобой обязательно был, а то как же без крови-то?! А не будет, так мы и сами устроим, это нам раз плюнуть!.. Вот так и жили из века в век, вот так (ну, конечно, не совсем так, цивилизация все же, культурный прогресс, понимаете) продолжаем и до сих пор жить.
Почему туристы (в основном из России) продолжают вылетать на отдых в страны Юго-Восточной Азии, пострадавшие от цунами в конце прошлого года? Да все по той же причине. Конечно и оплаченные путевки, деньги потраченные (свои ведь, кровные!) также терять не хочется, но не это главное. Главное здесь — те чувства, впечатления, эмоции, которые возможно получить, максимально приблизившись к случившемуся природному катаклизму. Одно дело в телевизор пялиться, лежа на диване и пиво-лимонад потягивая во время «новогодних каникул», а другое, раз уж путевка есть и вылетать пора, самому там побывать, собственными глазами на все посмотреть, оказаться в гуще событий, почувствовать, потрогать, оценить, сувенирами на память, наконец, запастись. И плевать на 160 тысяч погибших, на горе выживших! Как говорится, «кто не успел, тот опоздал». Раньше надо было думать!.. Зато по возвращению домой ты в окружении своем почти что героем будешь — не побоялся, съездил, молодец!
Вечером 5 января слушал любимую еще со школьной скамьи радиопрограмму «Глядя из Лондона». Практически весь выпуск ее был посвящен новостям, так или иначе связанным с событиями в пострадавшем от природной стихии регионе и реакции на них мирового сообщества, главным образом европейской его части. Не осталось незамеченным журналистами и то, что многие россияне не отказались от намеченных туров в Таиланд и другие страны, пережившие страшный удар гигантского морского вала, а некоторые из выживших решили остаться и продолжить «отдых» на юго-азиатских курортах, в полной мере испытавших на себе грозную силу природы. Молодая особа, судя по голосу, лет 20–25, по имени Маша (Катя, Валя, так ли это важно? Главное — из России), радостно (!) поделилась с связавшейся с ней по телефону русской службой БиБиСи своими впечатлениями о случившемся, сообщив при этом, что из ее родственников и знакомых никто не пострадал, что волной накрыло только «первую линию» курортного побережья, и что дальше, в нескольких сотнях метров жизнь продолжается «как и прежде»: работают магазины, а также дискотеки и ночные бары, в которых можно весело и беззаботно провести время, отдохнуть, так сказать, на полную катушку (за точность цитирования ее слов не ручаюсь, но суть такова). Я вполне понимаю, почему в эфир была дана именно эта, а не какая-то другая запись. Это только в сегодняшних учебниках по истории написано, что «холодная война» между Западом и Востоком, то есть Россией, закончилась; на самом же деле еще очень многие там стремятся показать какие они хорошие (три минуты молчания в память о погибших, сотни тысяч евро безвозмездной помощи и пр.) и какие мы плохие: у людей такое горе, а они веселятся! Как гениально выразился М. Жванецкий в одном из своих монологов, мол, «смотрите, кому помогает Америка»! Да они же животные, если несмотря на случившееся продолжают там и едут туда отдыхать. Именно такое впечатление складывается у психически нормального человека. Но если отбросить эмоции, обуздать чувства и трезво рассудить, то:
1) интервью было взято у молодой особы, которая вероятно не познала еще в полной мере горечь утрат и поражений — неизбежных спутников человеческого бытия; она привыкла по-детски радоваться жизни (в том числе тому, что она и близкие ей люди целы и невредимы) и радужные интонации ее рассказа — это следствие ее здорового мироощущения, желания жить интересно, ярко. В молодости все происходящее выглядит не так, как в зрелые годы, сказываются возрастные особенности психики.
2) зачем она приехала в Азию? Чтобы отдохнуть, развлечься. Такова была изначальная психологическая установка. Как привыкла отдыхать современная молодежь (кстати сказать, не только в России)? Правильно — весело, зажигающее, по полной программе, в которой танцы и выпивка стоят на «почетных» первых местах. Это, возможно, грустно, но факт. То есть дискотеки и бары — это те места, где можно получить массу удовольствия. Кстати, заметьте, пострадавшие аборигены и не думают их закрывать, бизнес-то больно уж прибыльный.
А то, что девушка честно и искренне сказала правду, так это не ее беда, это скорее ее наивная глупость. Была бы она немного поумнее или опыта жизненного имела побольше, так всю подоплеку журналистского вопроса поняла бы и тогда уж точно не посрамила бы державу свою — соврала что-нибудь о том, как она сильно переживает случившееся и как хочет помочь бедным «туземцам» справиться с последствиями стихии. Еще древнегреческие мудрецы (Сократ и его не менее известный ученик Платон, в частности) знали, как надо задавать вопросы, чтобы услышать от обычного человека правильные (ожидаемые) ответы. Что хотели западные «акулы пера» и микрофона, то и получили — «пир во время чумы», не больше, не меньше.
