Igor Trunov: 12 persons who carried out the Dubrovka terror act escaped Print E-mail
Written by RBC.ru
Пятница, 01 Июнь 2007

In RBC.ru / June 1st, 2007

Двенадцать. Не Блок... Of the 52 terrorists who carried out the Dubrovka terror act (‘Nord-Ost’, October 2002), 12 persons escaped investigators, according to Igor Trunov, lawyer for victims of the terror act.

The lawyer bases his opinion on official data that states that 52 persons participated in the terror act.  Forty of these were killed during the special operation, and another two (Gerihan Dudayev and Hassan Zakayev) still stand accused, while no information is available on the others.

Trunov’s declaration followed an official letter from the Attorney General’s office, which stated that the case concerning the terror act at Dubrovka was being dropped due to a lack of information on the whereabouts of the accused.

According to the lawyer, the letter stated that the main organizer of the terror act, according to the investigation, was Shamil Basayev, who was killed by Russian special services soldiers in the course of a special operation on July 20th, 2006.

Trunov said that he intends to appeal the Attorney General’s decision to drop the investigation, since in his opinion it was conducted improperly.

The seizure of hostages in the theatrical center on Dubrovka Street in Moscow occurred on October 26th (sic), 2002.  Gunmen under the command of Movsar Barayev held 923 people prisoner, and placed explosives in the concert hall.

As a result of the terror act 130 died and more than 700 were injured.
