ImageAlexei Margiyev, a renowned historian and archivist from the Republic of South Ossetia, has finished his latest work on the modern history of Ossetia. It is dedicated to the September 2004 tragedy in Beslan.

Alexei Margiyev, born in 1927, is the author of numerous works on the history of Ossetia. Among them are the scientific, educational, and journalistic articles. An example of the latter is his “Day 888 of the Catastrophe — the halted South Ossetia genocide”.

In his book, “The pain and grief of Beslan”, he includes materials from the press on the terrorist seizure of Beslan School № 1 in September 2004.

The book also contains statements by politicians and public figures about the Beslan events, as well as lists and photographs of the dead and a photographic chronicle of the tragedy. The highlight of the book is a collection of poems devoted to terrorist attack.

“I felt the tragedy of Beslan School № 1 with profound pain, and thought that I could do something to make the work of researchers into this terrible tragedy easier,” said the author. “I think that my work to some extent may facilitate the work of those who in future will turn to the causes and effects of this heinous crime.”

According Margiyev, he gathered all 21 volumes of materials on the Beslan tragedy. “These include eyewitness testimony, materials from journalists, official documents, and the like.” He noted that this week he would hand over all his collected materials about the tragedy to the North Ossetia public organization, ‘Mothers of Beslan’.
