“Hostages” were rescued at the Koltsov Theater

In Moscow yesterday they were remembering the victims of the terrorist act at Dubrovka, which took place exactly nine years earlier and killed 130, while today, October 27th, the operational headquarters of the National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) conducted training in the Koltsov academic theater in Voronezh. The training scenario was similar to the situation nine years ago — about 10 unidentified armed men seized the theater during the evening performance and put forward political demands and declared that, if these were not met, all the hostages — about 500 people — would be killed, and the theater blown up.

The training was developed in accordance with a pre-planned scenario: after receiving a special signal, security forces entered the theater, freed all the hostages, and neutralized the “terrorists”, according to a report from the press center for the regional FSB given to online newspaper ‘Vremya Voronezh’. They noted that the exercises used different options up to and including the complete destruction of the terrorist group.

The department explained that the exercises were aimed at improving the protection of the populace in places of mass gathering from a host of terrorist threats. “During the exercises they put into practice activities aimed at increasing the interaction of territorial, federal, and regional executive authorities with local governments and other organizations involved in counter-terrorism operations,” they noted at the regional FSB. “In addition, there was evaluation of professional training of law enforcement personnel.”
