Prosecutor denies statement on slain hostages |

Moscow prosecutor Mikhail Avdyukov caused a sensation when he said that 45 of the hostages died of gunshot wounds during the assault. About a half hour after this sensational statement was circulated by news agencies, the Moscow prosecutor’s office denied it.
Prosecutor Avdyukov clarified his statement by saying that of the 45 persons killed by gunfire during the assault on the terrorist-captured building, 41 were terrorists.
According to the prosecutor, criminologists are still determining which weapons killed these people — the weapons of the terrorists, or of the security force personnel. Mikhail Avdyukov also noted that their relatives would receive certificates specifying the cause of death as gunshot wounds.
