 Relatives of those killed in the Beslan terrorist attack are not allowed to see the presidentSome of the relatives of those killed during the terrorist attack in Beslan in September 2004 will not be allowed to meet with President Dmitry Medvedev. 'Voice of Beslan' stated this in an open letter to the president, a copy of which was received by Kasparov.ru on May 4th. «Parents of children killed in the attack have repeatedly written you requesting a meeting, and hundreds of victims have signed petitions such as this in the hope that they will be heard, but the fears that our delegates would not allowed to see the President have been justified,» read the letter. According to activists from 'Voice of Beslan', the government «has decided to form its own group of victim representatives.» They are convinced that the meeting will be “just for show". «We do not know what letters have actually gotten to you, and what documents you have received, but we believe that you have an opportunity to learn from us the real truth about the Beslan tragedy, to hear from us about the real problems in fighting terrorism in our country, and the needs of the victims of terrorist attacks,» wrote the relatives of the victims. 'Beslan Mothers' demanded ttat one of their members take part in the delegation that would meet with Medvedev. Recall that in 2009, during a visit by President Medvedev to North Ossetia, the 'Beslan Mothers' organization was not allowed to deliver a letter to the president. Medvedev's guards injured the women and threatened to shoot them. One of the guards even suggested the women hire a hitman to kill the president, «instead of chasing him around with letters.» On September 1th, 2004, during a first day of school ceremony at Beslan School No. 1, terrorists seized more than a thousand students, parents, and teachers hostage, and held them for over two days. The authorities would not agree to negotiate with the attackers, and on September 3rd began to shell and assault the school. As a result, a fire started in the school.
