The Hunt for the Barayevs

Representatives of the Unified Forces Group (UFG) in Chechnya officially declared the liquidation of yet another well-known field commander, Movsar Barayev, the nephew of separatist leader Arbi Barayev.  According to information from the special services, Movsar at first went by a different surname – Suleimenov.

After the death a year ago of his famous uncle, who was a celebrated organizer of mass hostage takings, the young man ‘inherited’ his relative's last name and took over his unit.  According to counter-intelligence specialists, Movsar Barayev had recently been in charge of part of the Urus-Martanovsky region of Chechnya, and was once of the ‘dispatchers’ who would distribute to other units money sent to Chechnya from international terrorist organizations.   Exactly where and how the special services tracked down the field commander has for now not been reported.  According to UFG headquarters, the junior Barayev’s detachment fell under a serious of pinpoint bombing strikes.  Information about this field commander’s death, however, has been published before.  Last summer the military reported that he had been killed during a shootout as a result of a special operation by federal forces.
