Age — 32; Russia, Podolsk.

One day our company had an opening for a secretary, so we went about interviewing several candidates for the position.

When SHE walked in, smiled and said hello, we suddenly had this feeling that we had known her for a long time.  Her simple, yet honest, answers, as well as her graciousness and courtesy, prompted us to select her for the job.  And that was the first time we met Zhanna.

Zhanna was a purposeful, patient, and benevolent person, and this allowed her to quickly master her profession, as well as win the respect of her partners and colleagues.

She related to work responsibly and conscientiously, and had the ability to learn quickly, which allowed her to work her way up to the position of operator, then later to manager, and later still to head of the wholesale department.

She was dependable: she never left matters undone, and shared her knowledge and know-how generously with her colleagues, this allowed them to increase the quality of work, and, in so doing, to rally the company.  She was the first to offer to participate or assist others when complicated situations arose.

Even when she had to refuse a client, she knew how to do it in such a way that the client took it as necessary, and agreed with her argument.

When we found out about the capture of the hostages, and that Zhanna was among them, we were very worried, but until the very last moment we believed nothing bad could happen to Zhanna.  There are not a lot of people like Zhanna.  One can compare them with the warm spring sun – you await them with impatience and hope, and rejoice at every meeting and strive to prolong it as long as possible.

From all over the country we received an endless number of letters, telegrams, and verses expressing sympathy for her loss.  Zhanna’s memory still lives inside our hearts.  There is a picture of Zhanna standing in the sales department where she first started as a secretary — it was the opening there that gave us our chance to meet Zhanna.

Every year we gather together on the day of her loss, and truly understand the depth of our loss.  We realize how lucky we were to have known Zhanna, and to have worked alongside, and together, with her.
