Anonymous politician ordered Politkovskaya’s murder |

 A certain Russian politician ordered the murder of ‘Novaya Gazeta’ correspondent Anna Politkovskaya. This was declared by Murad Musaev, lawyer for the men accused in the death of the journalist. According to the attorney, the indictment also indicates that the motive for the murder were “Politkovskaya’s critically incriminating materials.” This was reported by Russian Information Agency ‘Novosti'’Hearings on the case of Anna Politkovskaya’s death began on November 19th in a military district court in Moscow. In the dock on charges of murdering the journalist were brothers Jabrail and Ibrahim Makhmudov, and Sergei Hajikurbanov. Another person involved in the case, FSB officer Pavel Ryaguzov, is suspected of abuse of office. According to investigators, he gave information about the journalist’s whereabouts to the murderers.
The investigators consider Rustam Makhmudov, a fugitive from justice on the international most-wanted list, to be the immediate perpetrator of the murder. On November 24th, 2008, the head of the Prosecutor General’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, said that law enforcement agencies “have an idea” in which country the journalist’s killer is hiding, and that negotiations are underway concerning his extradition.
