Kazakhstani recruited Novosibirsk students into ISIS

ImageIn Novosibirsk, police uncovered evidence that a student from Kazakhstan recruited students into the Islamic State terrorist organization, according to RBC.

“We already found that recruitment into ISIS has taken place,” said Alexei Kirillov, deputy regional chief of the Internal Ministry. “The student, a native of Kazakhstan, has gone to Syria.” According to him, the student had been trying to persuade others to go to Syria with him and join the group.

“He could not persuade them, so he left on his own,” said Kirillov. According to him, the student attended a Novosibirsk college for 1 1/2 years. During this time he lived in a student hostel. Kirillov drew attention to the fact that this was the only such case in the region.

The Islamic State is an Islamist terrorist organization operating mainly in Syria and Iraq. According to the latest data of the US CIA, the number of members of the organization varies from 20 to 31.5 thousand.

ISIS gained momentum during the civil war in Syria, where it has been able to capture territory in the north. In early June it dramatically increased its activities in Iraq. ISIS launched an offensive in the northern provinces of that country, and announced the creation of an Islamic caliphate.

ISIS has acquired a reputation as being one of the most violent armed groups. Several thousand civilians have fallen victim to the militants, while hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee. The Islamists are holding several thousand civilians captive.
