Natasha Zhirova was born Natalya Buchak in the closed city of Tomsk-7 on June 7^th, 1963.  This once secret city near Tomsk is now known as Seversk.

Eight years later Natalya’s entire family in Siberia, her parents and grandparents, decided to move to the Donbas, in the eastern Ukrainian city of Voroshilograd.

It was the usual childhood of the Soviet child: school, music school for the fortepiano, and Olympics reserve school in light athletics and 400-meter hurdles.  Pioneer and sport summer camps, studying with well-known athletes.  Hanging out with her neighborhood friends turned Natalya into a happy, sociable, and goal-oriented girl.  As was common in those days, she enjoyed literature writing, which instilled in her a romantic side that led to future happiness.

I met this madly charming, cheerful, and romantic girl on Valentine’s Day, 1982…

She waited for me while I finished my military service, became my wife, bore me two remarkable children, and unselfishly provided for our family life.

To my great surprise, she still had the time and energy, without taking time away from the family, to finish college, learn a foreign language, and become a successful design engineer for an American construction company.

During her 39 years she was happy and overflowing with energy to make others happy.  Alas… on that cold morning of October 26^th, 2002, following the military operation to rescue the hostages from the Dubrovka Theater, Special Forces officers (or the physicians who refused to give her timely assistance) were unable to save her life, depriving her children of their childhood happiness.
