Age - 40; Russia, Himki, MO. ![]() On October 26th, 2002, while a spectator at the musical ‘Nord-Ost’, our only son, Lieutenant Colonel Valeriy Viktorovich Bondarenko, died during the hostage rescue operation. He was only 40 years old, and of these he dedicated 23 years to service in the armed forces of Russia. He made the choice to become an officer in childhood, and knew about service not from books, but from real life, having traveled with his parents (his father was an officer) from garrisons in the cold far north to Central Asia. Through his love of hard work, his discipline, and responsibility for his command, he earned the authority and respect of his commanders and subordinates alike. At twenty years of age, after finishing the Ryazan command communications school, ‘Valera’ became deputy company commander. At 33 he headed a separate unit in the garrison, for the purpose of reinforcing law and order, discipline, and security. In the full bloom of his abilities, the life of Valeriy was torn asunder senselessly and quickly, despite all attempts to save it. Forgive us, Valerochka, because we could not protect you. You will always be with us… Many friends and comrades of Valeriy, who were scattered throughout Russia by their duties, did not know about his death, since our mass media discussed the tragedy at ‘Nord-Ost’ very little, and then with great care. Five years since the days of the tragedy there are still more questions than answers. They say that time heals, but this is a wound that defies healing… Under conditions of grief, suffering, and insults, we find consolation and rejoice in the successes of our only grandson, Anton, a student at the college of law at Ryazan University (RUDN). We worry about his health, and, most of all, about his safety. We receive support from our loved ones and relatives, and the graduates of School #8 in the city of Khimka, where Valeriy studied, and from his friends from the institute and the service. We make a low bow and give thanks for their kindness, compassion, and sympathy. Your attention and care is very important to us. Written by his parents, Viktor Grigorevich and Larisa Petrovna Bondarenko, and his son, Anton Valerevich Bondarenko. Add as favourites (39) | Views: 1838 | E-mail
